Great game !!. Boulderdash (which I played extensively back in the 1980's on Amstrad), is close to the top of the list of my favourite games ever. I know this version is a straight PC port with no enhancements of the more recent mobile version, and thus I should hate it - but I don't. I'm having a lot of fun with it - the game is very grindy to get all the heros unlocked, but at least you don't have to pay for them as the microtransactions of the mobile version are not included here. The other minor thing I don't like is that I am not sure how faithfully the classic levels have been ported over - the first classic level feels familar, but some of the others do not, so I am wondering if they have had some work done (the version here generally is not quite the version of the 1980's, there have been things added, for example the power-ups).. I bought this hoping it'd be a faithful recreation of the 1980s Boulder Dash that I knew and loved on the Commodore 64. Sadly, I'm to be dissapointed with this half-hearted attempt which, while keeping (ravaging?) the basic formula that made the original so enjoyable, adds elements I'd expect to find on yawn-worthy facebrick games (all it's missing is the "share this on your wall" functionality honestly). What added to the dissapointment was the frustration at the vague and overly sensitive controls, not to mention the left-to-move & right-to-"grab" cluster{censored}. Future buyers, wait till it's in the bargain bin for at least an 80% discount - but, until then, go grab a copy of VICE and the original Boulder Dash.. A familiar face appears again! It's crazy just how good Commodore 64 games still hold gamers interest after 30+ years. Easy to play, difficult to master, fun and frustrating, this game has all the qualities that lets gamers of all ages and mastery enjoy. Glad to see that these games are still enjoyed today.. Good timesink. Retro game from my childhood. Make sure you play hardcore mode.. THIS IS.... BOULDER DASH !!!!. EDIT: Shortly after publishing this review, I discovered that there is indeed an android version of the game. And yes, the game is more fun and does make more sense on that platform (plus it is free-to-play, albeit with some content hidden away behind transactions). Thus, I am changing my rating accordingly: if you want to check this game out, download for free on your phone. That's clearly the platform it is meant for.ORIGINAL REVIEW: A fine distraction, but that is really all I can say for it. I can't say how faithful it is to the feel of the retro classic, but from a modern standpoint it holds up fine. The graphics are effective and stylized enought to avoid being ugly, and the music and sound is exactly what you would expect from this kind of game. In terms of the feel of the game and the gameplay, it really looks and acts very similar to a casual iPhone/Android game. I expected it to start badgering me for microtransactions. In fact, honestly, it would probably be more enjoyable in that format, as it is really designed for quick, brief bouts of gampelay during down time and gets old pretty quick if played for longer stretches. I grew bored with it less than halfway in.Basically, there is nothing wrong with this game, but there are so many better, more unique, more artistic puzzle games out there that can command more attention. I narrowly do recommend this. Probably a good fix for casual gamers who just want something fun to do at the library between classes, or to kill thirty minutes while your kid's napping.
